Esale… The ‘E’ is for Eco

At first glance you would be forgiven for not thinking of an estate agent (especially an online one) as a business type that produces significant amounts of carbon, but the truth is that any estate agent (even the online ones) produce Co2 purely through their day to day operations.

We recognise that simple day to day activities including staff driving to and from our Harrogate based office, energy used for powering our computers, telephones and making cups of coffee (the
most essential thing we might add)… all generates Co2, not to mention that produced by our customers during the house hunting and moving process.

Well… we wanted to do something about it, so we teamed up with Sequester whose UK planting is independently verified by the ‘Woodland Carbon Code’ and who work exclusively with individuals
and businesses like us to reduce their carbon footprint.

How Moving Home Generates Carbon

Moving home is a stressful and time for anyone and with so much to think about including packing, removals and travel – it is easy to forget how much carbon is actually generated as a result of this seemingly innocent process…

On an average month in the UK around 100,000 households will move into a new home, a number which will have only risen during the ‘property boom’ that has followed the Covid 19 pandemic.
With each of these moves comes the need for packing materials, travel and removals transport. Multiply this however by the number of people in any one chain and it is safe to say that amount of carbon generated will be substantial, but it doesn’t end there…

Prior to agreeing a sale on a property comes the property viewings, which means for many travelling to the viewing by car or bus, alongside the Estate Agent who in most circumstances would also be travelling by car generating, yep you’ve guessed it… more Co2.

Carbon Negative blog

What is a ‘Carbon Negative’ Company and What Does Going ‘Carbon Negative’ Mean?

A “Carbon Negative Company’ is one that offsets the Co2 generated through running its business.

We have decided to offset this carbon generated by not only ourselves as a business, but also byour customers during the buying and selling process.
We are doing this by planting trees for every property we sell – planting five trees in our customer’s
name, completely free of charge whenever they choose us to sell their home with us!
